Ebony and tortoiseshell cabinet
Ebony and tortoiseshell cabinet
Cabinet in ebony, ebonized wood and tortoise shell. On the front there are drawers decorated with glass plaques painted in the manner of Luca Giordano and fixed with tortoiseshell and ebony frames; in the center a shrine between two spiral tortoiseshell columns, inside a perspective game obtained with side mirrors and geometric flooring enhances the painting in the background. The glass of these cabinets was painted on the back with a cold applied paint and sometimes simply inserting gold graffiti: this technique was developed in particular to preserve the painting itself and avoid color falls. The subjects are allegorical and mythological characters: the beauty and accuracy of the paintings could make one think of the school of Luca Giordano. The cabinet rests on an eight-legged table, whose band is decorated with tortoiseshell tiles; The four central legs in the shape of an obelisk are made of the same material, while the outer legs are Corinthian column and painted in faux lapis lazuli, with a base and capital painted in gold. Onion feet.
